Woofstock: the biggest dog festival in Humboldt County kicks off with the 16th Annual Mutt Strut - a dog parade through Old Town Eureka where canines and their human companions raise pledges to help homeless animals. Don't miss the dog contests - including the Weenie Dunking Contest, Best Costume, Dog/Owner Look-Alike, Best Wag and Cutest Dog! Visit our vendor village, with dog (and cat)-themed arts and crafts, plus local animal rescues featuring adoptable pets. Delicious food, locally brewed beer, and homemade margaritas - plus fabulous raffle prizes! Best of all, you can bring your 4-legged friend (leashed, of course)
Tickets $15 General Admission at the Gate
$12 SHS Members and Online Pre-Event Ticket Sales
Kids Under 12 and Dogs are Free All Day!

Sequoia Humane Society Mutt Strut Carnival
Mutt Strut Carnival is Sunday, July 17th from 1-3 pm at the Sequoia Humane Society Pet Adoption Center on 6073 Loma Ave. in Eureka. Kick off the Mutt Strut fundraising season with a fun carnival. Games and prizes for you and your dog. Win “Doggie Dough” to start off your Mutt Strut fundraising. Free for all registered Mutt Strut participants, $3 for everyone else. Register for the Mutt Strut at the Carnival and we’ll refund the $3 to start your Mutt Strut Fundraising.

Lost Coast Kennel Club Dog Show this weekend
On July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2011, Lost Coast Kennel Club will host its 11th Annual All Breed Dog Show: The show is at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale, CA. Show hours are 7am - 8pm, check the juding schedule for ring time for your favorite breed or event. See top dogs from all over, learn about the different breeds, and shop our fun dog-related vendors, and more! Admission is free to the general public. Parking fee is $3 per day. Only dogs eligible to compete in show events may be on the show grounds. For more information, including the judging schedule, find us online or check us out on Facebook.

Avalon Restaurant helps area firefighters to help pets

Beverley Wolfe has a passion for animals, and a dog, five cats — and even a lizard named Elizabeth — to go with it. That’s why Wolfe, owner of Avalon Restaurant in Old Town, is raising money to help Eureka’s four-legged victims of fires. The restaurateur is raising money to buy seven sets of dog and cat oxygen masks that will be donated to the Eureka Fire Department.
